The top of Europe's highest active volcano
A 4x4 bus ride up to 2,800 m followed by a guided trek towards Etna's summit craters with a certified volcanological guide.
The most complete experience: from Piano Provenzana a 4x4 bus takes you up to 2,800 metres, where the trek begins towards one of the four summit craters, led by a certified volcanological guide.
The ascent on foot takes 2 to 2.5 hours across high-altitude volcanic terrain. On clear days the view stretches from the Ionian coast to the Aeolian Islands, while the fumaroles tell the story of the volcano's ceaseless activity.
Return to Piano Provenzana is expected between 2:00 and 2:30 pm. The route may change with weather and volcanic activity: the mountain decides, the guide translates.

The guide reserves the right to change, postpone or cancel the tour if weather or volcanic activity endanger participants' safety. If cancelled: refund or reschedule.
You climb to the rim of one of the summit craters when conditions allow: the volcanological guide, the only professional authorised to lead groups at altitude, decides each day how far it is safe to go.
It is the most demanding tour we offer: 2–2.5 hours of ascent on ash and lapilli above 2,800 metres, where the air is thinner. Good fitness and some mountain walking experience are needed.
Hiking boots, windproof jacket, a warm layer, water (at least 1.5 litres) and food. The helmet is included. Sunglasses, sunscreen and poles are useful.
Given the elevation gain and altitude we recommend it from age 14 with hiking experience. For families we suggest the 2002 craters or the 4x4 bus tour.
